We are seeking a Sr. Food Scientist to join our R&D team in Marshall, Minnesota. This is a high-impact role dedicated to the development, renovation, and technical support of our Egg Roll portfolio.  This position offers a unique and exciting career path:

  1. Intensive hands-on training and product development in Pasadena, TX.
  2. Technical leadership and support for our Sioux Falls, SD facility—the largest Asian products manufacturing plant in North America.
  3. Long-term innovation leadership at Schwan’s R&D Center in Marshall, MN, driving the next generation of frozen appetizers.

What You Will Do:

  • Product Innovation & Renovation: Lead the development of new-to-world egg roll products and optimize existing formulas to improve quality, nutrition, and cost-competitiveness.
  • Process Scale-Up: Plan and execute complex bench-top trials and full-scale plant runs. Transition products from concept to commercialization at the Sioux Falls manufacturing site.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Apply food science principles (chemistry, microbiology, and engineering) to solve production challenges, optimize ingredient functionality, and ensure food safety/stability.
  • Line Commissioning: Provide R&D leadership during new line installations and equipment commissioning to ensure product reproducibility and operational efficiency.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Marketing, Sales, Operations, and External Customers to align technical specs with business objectives and consumer trends.
  • Documentation: Maintain rigorous standards for formulations, specifications, and project reporting within SAP-PLM and Genesis.

What We Look For:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Cereal Science, Meat Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years relevant work experience with BS degree; 2-4 years relevant work experience with Master’s degree
  • Technical Skills:  Deep understanding of ingredient functionality, food chemistry, food product design and formulation.
    • Proven ability to lead plant trials and manage scale-up complexities.
    • Previous R&D experience in fried products, dough, vegetable and meat processing is preferred
    • Familiarity with R&D software (SAP-PLM, Genesis) is a significant plus.
  • Travel Mobility: Ability to travel frequently to Pasadena, TX, during the first 12–18 months for specialized training and project execution.
  • Must be willing and able to taste and ingest all products under development (including meat, wheat, and soy-based ingredients).

What We Offer:

The base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $125,000 annually with eligibility for a 10% annual incentive bonus, that is based on organizational performance. The pay range represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to educations, skills, work experience, certifications, geography etc. As such, starting pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
