Are you a seasoned food safety and quality compliance leader passionate about driving regulatory excellence across the supply chain? As our Sr Manager, FSQ Regulatory Compliance, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our manufacturing facilities, suppliers, and co-packers consistently meet and exceed USDA, FDA, FSMA, SFCR, and other global food safety standards. You will lead cross-functional teams, serve as a key regulatory expert, and manage complex compliance programs including product safety, labeling, import/export, and crisis management. Responsibilities:
Lead compliance across manufacturing and supply chain: Direct activities at CJ Schwan’s manufacturing sites, suppliers, and co-packers to ensure strict adherence to USDA, FDA, FSMA, SFCR, HACCP, SSOPs, and Good Manufacturing Practices, driving continuous improvement in food safety and quality standards.
Subject Matter Expert on regulatory programs: Serve as HACCP Coordinator and Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI), providing expert guidance on regulatory requirements, product safety, labeling compliance (USDA/FDA), and special claims to support safe and compliant product development and manufacturing.
Regulatory agency liaison and incident leadership: Act as the main point of contact for regulatory agencies including FSIS, FDA, CFIA, and State/Military authorities. Lead corporate recall processes, mock recalls, and crisis management programs to ensure timely, effective responses and continual process enhancements.
Cross-functional partnership for product and process compliance: Collaborate closely with Sales, Marketing, Procurement, Planning, and R&D teams to provide regulatory expertise for new product launches, specification approvals, ingredient compliance, packaging innovations, and regulatory risk assessments.
Proactive regulatory risk management: Monitor and analyze emerging regulatory trends, enforcement actions, recalls, and global food safety risks. Serve as liaison with Scientific & Regulatory Affairs to anticipate impacts and align company strategies with evolving regulatory landscapes.
Import/export regulatory leadership: Manage comprehensive compliance programs including Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR), Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP), USDA import permits, and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) audits. Oversee packaging reviews, documentation, and certifications to ensure smooth global trade compliance.
Audit and verification management: Lead regulatory import/export audits and verifications, collaborating with internal teams and external agencies to ensure robust compliance and timely resolution of issues.
Team leadership and development: Direct and mentor FSQ team members, fostering alignment with company values and regulatory best practices while building a high-performing compliance culture.
Documentation and training oversight: Maintain FSQ documentation systems, including SharePoint and specification controls. Coordinate comprehensive employee training on crisis management, PCQI, regulatory updates, and lessons learned to reinforce compliance awareness and preparedness.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, Food Safety and Technology, Regulatory Affairs, International Trade, or closely related field. Master’s degree nice to have.
- Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in a FSQ focused leadership role involving manufacturing food, subject to USDA or FDA inspection, or similar FSQ management role.
- HACCP and Preventive Controls (PCQI) certification required.
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and programs (FSMA, SFCR, FSVP, USDA, FDA).
- Experience supporting regulatory audits and managing import/export compliance.
Compensation and Benefits:
The base salary range for this position is $104,625 - $174,375 annually with eligibility for a 20% annual incentive bonus, which is based on organizational performance. The salary range represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to education, skills, work experience, certifications, geography etc. As such, starting pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
